Does an equal row count mean the import is correct?
Missing and extra records can cancel out in the total, while values can also change. Inspect a four-finding import-copy example and the actual reports. This free CSV comparison checks strings; it does not directly inspect database NULL or integer-versus-text types.
Can column names and row order differ?
Select one to four key columns and corresponding value columns in each copy. Map key components in the same order on both sides. A key or combination that appears exactly once in both files is matched regardless of row position. Similar column names do not establish a match.
Are 00001 and 1, or an empty string and 0, different?
Yes. Original strings are compared exactly, including spaces, case and numeric formatting. No totals or numeric differences are calculated. Unmapped columns are outside the comparison.
What if products share a key but have different options?
Choose the product identifier first, then add the actual color, size or other option columns. For a Shopify export copy, URL handle and Option1–3 value can be mapped explicitly. Confirm that the selected columns and values have the same meaning in both copies. This tool does not validate Shopify imports or modify files. Official Shopify CSV guide
What happens to duplicate combinations and blank keys?
If the first key component is empty or whitespace, that row needs review. Empty extra components remain distinct option values. A full combination repeated in either copy puts all its source rows in Needs review; row order never establishes identity. Missing product identifiers are not filled from previous rows, and missing options are not guessed.
Can one file contain only a header?
Yes, if it includes a key column and a value column. That copy is shown as having zero data rows, and keys found only in the other copy remain visible. Empty files and missing headers are rejected.
